The Miah Method

Everyone has something to give. Everyone has something to receive.

Connection is not something we leave to chance. The Miah Method creates welcoming opportunities for people of different ages and abilities to build friendships through curiosity, shared experiences, empathy, and mutual contribution.

Our Connection Tools

Different Dots, curiosity name tags, and Connection Guides help people begin welcoming conversations. These are invitations, not labels or requirements.

Gentle Communication

Teach Listen, Reflect, Ask: listen without rushing, reflect what was heard, and ask rather than assume. Honor different communication styles, consent, and personal choice.

Art, Play & Shared Activities

Games, music, collaborative art, storytelling, and shared projects help people participate and contribute in different ways.

Caregivers & Partners

Miah creates opportunities for belonging; caregivers and qualified partner organizations bring specialized expertise, guidance, and services. Participants help shape the experience, too.

Our Promise & Conduct

Volunteers commit to dignity, boundaries, privacy, consent, appropriate safety practices, and respectful communication.

Research-informed approach

Our approach draws on research-informed principles of positive social contact, meaningful shared activity, and relationship-centered communication. We are learning from participants, caregivers, and partners as we continue to develop and evaluate the model.
